A Wiki is a collaboratively-edited website which many people also view. The distinguishing feature of wikis is that they typically allow all users to edit any page, with full freedom to add new text, change or even to delete the work done by previous authors. Other typical wiki features include:

  • Easy creation of links to wiki pages, other websites, images, videos and other kind of files.
  • Easy creation of new wiki pages.
  • A
page which lists pages that have been edited recently.
  • A collection of wikipages linked together under the same domain or "space" could be called a "wikispace"

  • Almost all wikis use revision control to prevent abuse and track changes, so if someone decides to erase one or more pages it is easy to "revert" back to previous good version of the "erased page". If someone repeatedly attempts to abuse the system, their IP address can simply be blocked.

Everybody who belongs to the space can edit every page, careful! You could damage the work of another person in your community. We are using to build our wikispace but there are other websites that allow you to make these kinds of communities.

A blog is a frequently updated online personal journal or diary. The content is normally arranged in reverse-chronological order with the most recent post at the top of the main page and the older entries toward the bottom. Blogs are written with bloggers communicating directly to their audience, and replies are expected in the form of comments.

It is a place to express yourself to the world. A place to share your thoughts and your passions. Really, it's anything you want it to be. For our purposes we'll say that a blog is your own Web site that you are going to update periodically.

Blog is a short form for the word weblog and the two words are used interchangeably. Another definition could be: "[a] collection of posts...short, informal, sometimes controversial, and sometimes deeply personal...with the freshest information at the top."--Meg Hourihan (

We need to build the image. For this task we'll use an aplication to edit images (for example "The Gimp") and, of course, one or more photographs. The best thing would be use your own pictures (taken from your digital camera or from your own "personal album"). If you don't want use your own "material" you can download images from Internet, but, be careful: Some images may be "copyrighted".

  • Exercise # 23: Combining photos...extreme photo editing

    • This week you are going to be combining pictures to create something new and completely different. You can manipulate the image to tell a story, share an opinion, or to improve the quality.
    • 800px-Port_Ghalib_march_2006-0097.jpg

-First step, choose some images you wish work with...I chose two, the bird and the underwater scene to use as a back ground.
-Open the images you want to manipulate using GIMP...from here there are lot's of different steps you might take to create your final piece... I'm going to talk briefly about how to use a few different tools you can use.
  • Create and edit paths tool
: Looks like a fountain pen point drawing a line with dot. If you have a specific object in the image you want to cut out, use this tool to draw guide lines around the object. Make sure the 'design' box is selected in the image. (I drew around the bird) when you have completely surrounded the object click 'create selection from path' on the GIMP toolbar. To move the selection, click the 'Move' box. From here you can copy the image.
  • Rotate the layer or selection: This will allow you to rotate the selected image, or object.
  • Flip the layer or selection: You can mirror the object.
-You can really do anything you want to your images. I copied the bird in with the fishes and added some text. Have fun!

Can you tell what tools I might have used for the second picture?
  • Here you have another example about how you can change some images to transform the original message in an "unexpected way".
Only your imagination sets the limits ! ...Do you dare to play?

--Once you are done, post your picture on your blog so we can see what you did...

Another example: You can transmit a lot of information without using any words. Be creative!!
